THE CHANFREAU FAMILY
The Chanfreau Family settled in Listrac-Médoc in 1962 when Léo purchased Château Fonréaud following his return from Algeria. A few months later, his father, Marcel Chanfreau, who also wished to settle in the Médoc, bought Château Lestage, the property neighbouring Château Fonréaud. Both men worked hard to develop these two fine estates.
They were already familiar with winegrowing as they had been winemakers in Algeria. They enjoyed working in the vineyard and were very enthusiastic about their new challenge.
n 1970, after the accidental death of Léo, his father Marcel continued to take care of both estates. At the age of 23, his grandson Jean Chanfreau was awarded his agronomy engineering degree and decided to follow in their footsteps. Today, he runs both estates with his wife Marie-Hélène and his sister Caroline Chanfreau-Philippon.
